For drivers with discerning taste and a need for speed, the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class roadster offers performance, exclusivity, and style. The SL-Class is comprised of three models, each with distinct engines and performance levels. The base SL-Class convertible is the SL550. Mercedes-Benz turned production of the SL63 and SL65 over to their in-house tuning shop, Mercedes-AMG. AMG is known for producing the most exclusive and highest performance of each Mercedes series with aggressive looks, better handling, and powerful engines.

The base SL500 has a 5.5-liter 382 horsepower V8 engine mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. Moving up to the AMG SL63 nets a hand-built 6.3-liter engine that puts out an impressive 518 horsepower. This model has a MCT (multi-clutch technology) automatic transmission with seven speeds. But it’s the AMG SL65 that is the supercar of the group boasting an amazing 604 horses from its 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 engine connected to a heavy-duty five-speed automatic transmission.

Both the AMG SL63 and the AMG SL65 have all the styling and performance upgrades expected from the Mercedes-Benz AMG shop. They have aggressive body styling and a lower stance compared to the SL550.

The three SL-Class roadsters come standard with leather interior, a powered retractable hardtop, and active body control. And, high-tech features abound including Mercedes-Benz’s COMAND system with voice control for navigation and telephone, 40GB hard drive, SIRIUS satellite radio (with 6 month subscription), iPod media interface, Bluetooth, GPS navigation, and a 10-speaker surround sound system by Harman Kardon with an in dash 6-disc changer.

At just over $100,000 the Mercedes-Benz SL550 is the base model in the 2011 SL-Class lineup. It has a powerful 5.5-liter 382 horsepower V8 engine mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Here in the AMG SL550 the tuners at AMG have made many performance, style, and handling improvements over the base SL550. This includes a 518 horsepower V8 and a multi-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission.

The all new 2011 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL65 roadster is among the fastest production cars on the road today. This two-seater only takes 4.5 seconds to get to sixty miles per hour. It gets its power from a hand built, bi-turbo V12 that makes 604 horsepower. The transmission is a heavy duty automatic with five-speeds and paddle shifters.

In addition to the standard SL-Class features, the AMG SL65 has AMG aerodynamic styling, AMG active ventilated multi-contour sport seats, carbon fiber trim, 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels, an AMG performance steering wheel, and an AMG high performance braking system.
